Our guest speaker was <strong>Patricio Larrosa, founder of the NGO <em>Asociaci\u00f3n Colaboraci\u00f3n y Esfuerzo <\/em>(Association for Collaboration and Endeavour) (ACOES) for cooperation in Honduras.<\/strong> This was a live event within the<a href=\"https:\/\/fguma.es\/fguma-contigo\/\"> \u00a0#FGUMAcontigo <\/a>programme and was broadcast on the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_7iLCypyG3Y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> official FGUMA YouTube channel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>Conference<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_7iLCypyG3Y\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Patricio Larrosa was born in Granada and graduated in Philosophy and Theology from the University of Granada. He served as a priest from 1985 to 1991, and in 1992 undertook a new role as a missionary in Honduras. In 1996, he founded<a href=\"https:\/\/acoes.org\/quien-somos\/\"> ACOES<\/a>\u00a0with the initial intention of helping to educate a group of young people. ACOES, which he presently presides over, focuses on education and the promotion of solidarity among the most vulnerable people in Honduras. As president of ACOES, Patricio Larrosa oversees fifty cooperative projects serving more than 70,000 people. Of those, 11,000 are children living in slums who are being educated in order to gain access to university. More than 200 volunteers currently work on the development of different projects. The association also receives help from international cooperation sources and hundreds of volunteers from Spain, the United States, Canada, France etc.<\/p>\n<p>Larrosa has received recognition for his cooperative work on many different occasions. In 2012, he was awarded\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ideal.es\/granada\/v\/20121230\/provincia\/padre-patricio-ensena-leer-20121230.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Premio Hoja de Liquid\u00e1mbar (Liquidambar Leaf Prize) of Tegucigalpa City Hall <\/a>&#8211; the most prestigious prize awarded in the capital of Honduras. In 2017, he was nominated as a candidate for the Prince of Asturias Prize, and in 2019 he received\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavanguardia.com\/vida\/20190823\/464211576251\/espana-reconoce-labor-de-asociacion-que-dirige-sacerdote-espanol-en-honduras.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Cross of Isabel the Catholic from the Spanish Ministry for Foreign Affairs<\/a>. In February 2020, King Felipe VI awarded him with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uma.es\/amzet\/noticias\/la-asociacion-colaboracion-y-esfuerzo-acoes-fundada-por-patricio-larrosa-recibe-el-premio-derechos-humanos-rey-de-espana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Human Rights Prize of the King of Spain<\/a>. In addition, he closed the <a href=\"https:\/\/fguma.es\/congreso-infancia-adolescencia\/\">VIII World Congress on Children and Adolescents<\/a> held in M\u00e1laga in 2018, and was a collaborating missionary in the DOMUND 2018 campaign.
