Centre for Ibero-American and Transatlantic Studies (CEIT)

The Centre for Ibero-American and Transatlantic Studies (CEIT) forms part of the General Foundation of the University of Málaga (FGUMA). It is specialised in the Ibero-American and transatlantic world with which Spain has historical relationships, and in whose sphere most of its past and present interrelationships take place. The University of Málaga cannot remain indifferent to the study and research of this immense area, which is capable of bringing together professors, researchers, and working groups that have been carrying out academic and scientific work in this vast field of knowledge. This is an interdisciplinary approach which converges with the project to build a university think tank. This will place the UMA in a position to offer rigorous analysis and proposals on the Ibero-American reality, and on the situation of Spain in this context.

The CEIT also stems from the experience of the María Zambrano Centre for Transatlantic Studies (AMZET) of the University of Málaga, which has been carrying out intensive training, research and dissemination activities in this field since 2012. For its part, the General Foundation of the University of Málaga (FGUMA), also has a line of action focused on Ibero-America and in which important training and research activities are being developed. Hence the convenience of centralising all these actions in a single centre for the management of all the studies that are currently being carried out on the Ibero-American and transatlantic world.

CEIT objectives

  • To highlight the cultural, social, political and economic exchanges that take place on both sides of the Atlantic, providing a broader, but no less specific, vision of this part of the world
  • To build an academic and scientific framework in the field that will serve for the training and exchange of experts
  • To promote research and knowledge transfer in Ibero-American studies and comparative transatlantic studies
  • To create a network of work and cooperation at an international level with academic entities, researchers and students in this field of study
