DIALOGUE WITH Alán Barroso

DIALOGUE on social networks, power and politics with Alán Barroso

Did you know that on average each person unlocks their mobile phone 80 times a day? Such an apparently innocent and common action hides a myriad of political and social implications of which we are rarely aware. The way power is exercised in a world completely influenced by technology, data and online communication has changed radically. Attention has become the new oil of the 21st century, data the postmodern gold and our mobile phone our worst enemy in our pockets. This talk aims to unveil the way in which states, political parties and, above all, large technology companies are conditioning our lives with our active cooperation. How power is exercised and, consequently, how politics is made, has changed radically in the last 15 years. And it is about to change even more.

Alán Barroso, political scientist and expert in political communication, was born in Santa Eulàlia de Ronçana (Barcelona) in 1997 and grew up in Valjunquera (Teruel). He has been working on politics and current affairs on social networks for years, he has worked as a political consultant at a professional level in several institutions and currently collaborates in different media as an analyst and talk-show host. He published his first book “Patria digna, la España que intentaron robarnos” (Ediciones B) in 2022.
